How Does Spray Tanning Create a Browning Effect?

All sunless tanning formulas including over the counter bronzing products contain an ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA).  DHA is a simple carbohydrate derived from beets and sugar cane it is the primary ingredient that gives the epidermis it’s glow. Dha has been FDA approved since 1973 as non- toxic and has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years.

I have a special event coming up, when should I get a spray tan?

We love arriving to our special events on day 2-4 of being spray tanned. Around this time spray tans truly look like your first days of laying out. When you are scheduling your one-hour appointment please reserve six to eight hours of no sweating to allow for developing period.

How should I dress for my spray tan?
Please wear old loose dark fitting clothing. Beware of selecting too tight bra (friction). We provide a complimentary spa robe concluding the appointment. Thong flip flops are suggested. Gentlemen, we request that you bring you own underwear or swimwear as bottoms to wear during your appointment.
Do I have to go nude?

Ladies you are welcome to wear as little or as much as you are comfortable wearing. While selecting an old bikini or undergarment make flattering tan line decisions. Men must wear underwear.

What make people go orange?
Imagine your results from shopping for a foundation with only two colors selections. Limited color options combined with a poor color match will result in the same disappointment while wearing your spray tan.
Can Island Toned help to disguise vitiligo or cover stretch marks or scars?
Spray tanning can minimize the appearance of Vitiligo. In most cases it blurs areas of stretch marks and scars.
Is sunless tanning safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
We spray tan many mommies to be on a weekly basis, however it is your responsibility to contact your doctor for permission. Although the active ingredient is FDA approved we cannot make the determination if it is safe for your particular pregnancy.
Do you offer men's appointments?
A standard signature men’s spray tan is just the trick to refresh the skin. For competition results a specialty rate will be applied. Island Toned provides specialty group rates.
Is Island Toned cruelty free?
Yes, we went vegan! We are proud to feature a high-performance formula line that is certified vegan by Peta. We are firmly against the testing of animals.
